Lettering
I am interested in a wide range of lettering- from formal Brush Writing (see the excellent tutorial text by Tom Kemp) through to freehand lettering adapted to the substrate I am working on. I am always being called upon to do lettering on glass as an important part of the commission, so I have developed a variety of styles to suit the medium of engraved glass.
At the same time, I work on lettering on flat paper using pen and ink, and combining lettering with printmaking, for example, placing lettering directly on an etching or lithographic plate to form a monoprint (see the Printmaking section for more information on printmaking techniques). An example can be seen in the Printmaking section: Emma's Alphabet.
